Munich family photo shooting Hofgarten Bobo

I took a series of photos of two-year-old Bobo and his family last summer. Here are the 40 or so photos that his mom chose and I want to share with you.

The shoot consisted of: Family photos in five scenes; parent-child photos of Bobo and mom or dad separately; individual shots from a distance, close-ups and headshots of Bobo.

Location: Hofgarten in Munich. The garden, attached to the Wittelsbach Palace in the center of Munich, is a very popular photo location in the city. I chose it because of the many backdrops that are close to each other.  It is not an exaggeration to say that there is scene after scene in ten steps. This makes for an efficient photo shoot and both parents and children don’t have to expend energy running around, which allows for maximum good shots.

Shooting style: parents are most interested in “frontal + looking at the camera + smiling” photos, and they always want more family photos which they cannot do by themselves, so we catered to those requests during the shoot. And the interesting moments that happened during this targeted shooting were also documented.

Shooting method: candid instead of posed. I want the kids to have a free childhood, even when taking pictures. And I want them to know that they are beautiful, even if the digital beauty filters are not used.

My philosophy: authentically beautiful. All our photo shoot processes are aimed at capturing vibrant and real children. Make children look like children! In the following retouching we try to keep the natural and real effect.

Shooting duration and number of pictures: The photo shoot lasted one hour and more than 800 pictures were taken.  To capture every interesting little expression, you basically need many shots. For older children we need less, maybe half the number of shots to get the similiar result. I don’t save pressing the shutter button on every shoot, but the ultimate goal of the shoot is not the number of photos, but the overall quality of the shots.

Bobo just turned 3 years old. His mommy said that he has grown a lot.  I will find out what he looks like now at the next shoot soon. Let’s look back, to the moments in his second year that were captured here.
